Why be an Outbound Au Pair?
Living and working abroad as an outbound Au pair for the summer, during your gap year or degree studies or before starting your career is a fantastic opportunity to live and work overseas and to dramatically improve your language skills while learning all about a whole new culture, visiting new places and of course making some new friends.
Being an Au pair will also teach you important new skills and how to be more independent while living in a secure family environment. Native English speakers are in great demand all over the world. Many host families have some knowledge of English and are very keen for their children to learn English while you are improving your language skills. Don’t worry about not being a fluent speaker or feeling a little shy to use your language skills; your host family will understand this is why you are coming to experience a new country and culture.
What is an Au Pair?
An au pair is a caring, live-in childcare provider who can be male or female and who lives as an extended member of a host family in exchange for room, board and pocket money.
In addition to looking after the children, your responsibilities may include:
- Taking the children to school, on play dates or other activities and collecting them afterwards.
- Practising English with the children
- Helping with homework
- Keeping the children’s rooms clean and tidy
- Cooking light meals for the children
Although your main priority is to take care of the children, you will have plenty of free time to study, make new friends and explore the area. You could enrol on a language course and meet other local au pairs.
A placement is flexible and can just be for the summer (short term) up to three months, or for 6 to 12 months. We would be very happy to discuss your plans and ideas with you.
